Just as every church has a particular worship style, so also churches tend to follow certain preaching and teaching styles. Normally the Pastor sets that style based on his own background and giftedness.
But because Cornerstone seeks to be biblical in all its beliefs and practices, preaching and teaching directly from the Bible makes the most sense. This is called “expositional” preaching and is normally done by simply preaching through an entire Bible book or major section at a time. This puts the text in its original context as well as making sure the preacher doesn’t just skip around to topics or texts that he is interested in.
We also tie the curriculum of our weekly Growth Groups to the passage that will be preached the following Sunday. This provides a way for people to study the passage individually for a week, discuss it with others, and be better prepared to hear what Pastor Jeff says about it on Sunday.
