Welcome

We look forward to meeting you this Sunday! Thank you for choosing to worship with us. We hope you find it spiritually inspirational and enjoyable. This church, first and foremost, is about bringing glory to our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. He alone is our Cornerstone! As our name suggests, we also believe that the Bible, God’s inerrant Word, is just as true and relevant for us today. And, we want to experience authentic community living and serving together as God’s people.

We are located in Mediapolis, Iowa at the corner of Hwy 61 and Meadow St., directly south of Casey’s
General Store. We have lighted signage in front of the large brown stucco building. Use the parking lot on the side of the building and enter through the large open garage door while we are still under renovation.

What kind of church are you?

Cornerstone is an independent local church, not affiliated, associated, or organizationally linked to any other group or particular denomination.

What can I expect at worship?

Our desire is to worship and glorify God in all we say and do while at the same time doing it in a way that is relevant to both our time and culture. That means we employ a contemporary music style, up-to-date videos and tech, live drama when appropriate, personal faith stories, and other creative ways to draw us into deeper worship of God.

The worship service is designed to last 1:15 minutes (9:00 am – 10:15am) after which we take a 15 minute fellowship and refreshment break before Children’s Sunday School and Adult Bible Community begins.

What kind of music do you play?

We are led in worship by a very talented Christian praise band called Narrow Road. The band includes guitars, key boards, drums and three or four vocal leaders. Most people stand while we sing multiple praise choruses and occasional hymns. Some people may raise their hands or bow their heads while they worship. We would not describe our church as “charismatic,” but we encourage people to feel comfortable and not judge others in their worship.

What will the sermon be like?

Pastor Jeff normally preaches a 40-minute expositional sermon directly from a Bible passage using PowerPoint outlines, photos, and videos to enhance the message. The sermon always concludes with strong personal application and a key truth.

Am I expected to give?

No! As our guest, we don’t want you to feel any obligation to give. Our church and its ministries are supported by the faithful gifts of its members and regular attenders. In fact, we believe so strongly about this that we don’t want anyone to give for the wrong reason or because they feel pressure. Therefore, we don’t ever pass an offering plate. Instead, an offering box is located near the door where gifts can be discretely placed.

What should I wear?

Whatever you feel most comfortable in! Our people come in everyday clothes: jeans, T-shirts, sweatshirts, shorts – it really doesn’t matter! Nobody looks at what you are wearing.

Where will my kids be?

If your children are infant through toddler age, we encourage you leave them in our nursery for the entire worship time. Our loving volunteer staff will watch them play in our well-equipped room.

Children 4 – 11 are encouraged to attend the first half of our worship and then are dismissed to attend a special Children’s Church time where they learn more about Jesus. If you would rather not do this, they may always stay with you throughout worship.

I’ve come to worship, now what?

First, fill out a Guest Registration found at the table in the back so we know who you are, can contact you, and can serve you better.
Second, come back next week!
Third, email, text or call us with any questions you may have. We want to be of help as you look for a new church family.
Finally, consider attending one of our weekly Growth Groups. Ask about them since we don’t publish their locations (they sometimes move around to different homes).
